See how we helped Article Group produce several polished video case studies for ADP that set a new precedent for remote video production workflows.
OVERVIEW
Organizing several video shoots in multiple parts of the country is no small feat.
When Article Group approached us in need of production services for 3 videos within less than 30 days we knew we had our work cut out for us. Block Of Joy was able to use our technical expertise, experience, and remote camera-to-cloud workflow to produce a set of polished documentary shorts that helped to set a new precedent for future video productions.
“Their efficient approach to production allows us to create a high volume of video content in a streamlined, scalable way. Block Of Joy has truly become an extension of our video team.”
— Ryan Miller, Video Production Director, Article Group
THE CHALLENGE
Article Group, a creative agency, came to Block Of Joy looking to collaborate on three documentary style testimonial shorts for ADP’s premiere conference for enterprise clients. These shorts showcased three companies who each demonstrated a major feature of the ADP platform. Article Group’s primary needs were:
- Video production services and collaboration with their creative team on production logistics and crew onboarding.
- Setting up a workflow for real-time dailies review.
- Providing a live remote video village for their Creative Director and ADP to view interviews in real-time.
- Post-production services for quick video turnarounds that worked in tandem with back-to-back shooting schedules.
In our discussions with Article Group it was clear that ADP needed a fast and reliable production workflow. They needed plenty of review cycles prior to their conference date and the turnaround time was less than 30 days.
To accomplish this we to adopted a Camera-To-Cloud workflow. This allowed for real-time delivery of dailies to Article Group’s creative director. Scripts were sent to our video editors to begin on post-production shortly after.
Based on the timeline and necessary review cycles our producers determined that the 3 videos would require a remote workflow that allowed for production overlap and coordination between teams across the country. To add another challenge we had to film in several different locations with different time zones. This meant coordinating with local crews and flying out essential team members to both filming locations.
THE SOLUTION
We implemented a Camera-To-Cloud workflow allowing for footage uploads direct from cameras to cloud servers while recording. Article Group’s creative team could review dailies, get interviews transcribed, and create scripts for our video editors all within days.
As with any project requiring a quick turnaround we spent a lot of time in pre-production and preparation to maximize each phase of production and post-production, meaning:
- Developing a Look-Up-Table (LUT) for the cameras that matched the final look to reduce time needed on Color Grading.
- Connecting Article Group with Camera-To-Cloud platforms and Slack Connect for immediate communication with all creative teams to increase efficiency.
- Linking video editors to cloud workflows so they could begin editing as footage was uploaded to the cloud.
Each location offered us one day of scouting/prep and one day of filming. The prep day was essential as it allowed our team to work with Article Group on creating shot lists and schedules prior to filming. This greatly cut down on time that might have been wasted between scene changes or due to changes in setups.

Filming took place over the course of a day. Due to the high amount of footage we needed to capture we decided to break the day up into three sections with 2 camera units.
During the interviews we sent a live feed to Article Group and ADP for remote viewing. Using the Teradek Core streaming platform we provided a completely secure, color accurate, and low latency video feed to all essential parties. This allowed them to provide real-time feedback as the interviews took place from anywhere in the country.
B-roll didn’t require a live feed thanks to our Camera-To-Cloud workflow. We provided high definition dailies to Article Group and our video editors seconds after filming it. This allowed our team to begin editing before receiving the raw footage.
The constantly moving nature of this project required the remote collaboration between Directors, Producers, and the Client. Thanks to these remote workflows and extensive preparation our collaboration with Article Group went off smoothly.
THE RESULTS
In the end we partnered with Article Group to provide:
- Pre-production planning and production coordination
- Crew hiring and onboarding
- Filming with Camera-To-Cloud and Remote Video Village capabilities
- Video Editing, Color, and Sound Mix
- Post-Production Supervision
Article Group was able to interface with ADP through each phase of production and relay their feedback to our team. The videos were delivered to ADP earlier than anticipated allowing them plenty of time for review, QC, and for testing prior to the air date at the Meeting of the Minds conference.
Of course, the goal wasn’t only for the production process to go smoothly, but also to elevate ADP’s brand and marketing material in the most effective way possible.
Our work with Article Group on these videos helped to create a strong impact with ADP and their attendees.
